Albertans Make Historic Donation to Address Dire Food Insecurity
Every month, food banks across the province see nearly 173,000 visits from people who desperately need support—more than a third of which are children. The need is dire but, thankfully, so is the determination of Albertans to help.
And we have breathtaking proof.
We’re excited to share that Fill Our Fleet, an AMA Community Foundation fundraiser for local food banks, raised a record amount in 2024: $322,516.54. This is the highest of any single-year total in the campaign’s history! It reflects the overwhelming generosity of Albertans and includes $100,000 of donation-matching by the Alberta Motor Association—unique to 2024, given the immense challenges faced by food banks this year.
“Albertans are stretching every dollar right now, but that hasn’t stopped them from digging deep to help families facing profound need,” says Jane Flower, Vice-President of Corporate Purpose for AMA.
“We’re so inspired by people’s generosity. To raise a record amount in this economy truly speaks to the will of Albertans to look out for each other.”
Fill Our Fleet has additionally raised 41,896.41 lbs pounds of nonperishables for community food banks across the province. It’s a powerful demonstration of community care at a time marked by soaring grocery costs.
Tamisan Bencz-Knight, spokeswoman for Edmonton’s Food Bank, says the donations couldn’t have come at a better time.
“This holiday season, AMA’s support is fuelling hope, filling plates, and helping us steer through the challenges our community is facing. Together, we’re making sure no one gets left behind,” says Bencz-Knight, Manager of Strategic Relationships and Partnerships. “Every meal makes a difference.”

2012: Fill Our Fleet becomes an official holiday campaign
2019: We raise more than $100,000 in one year
2020: Despite no in-person events, we raise a (then record) amount of $237,634
2022: The campaign’s combined historical total tops $1,000,000
2024: New record for monetary donations in a single year
