Is This Bursary Right for You?
This bursary is open to educators and teachers at Alberta schools who are ready to champion a food literacy garden project at their school. You may be a strong candidate if you:
- Are looking to expand or enhance an existing garden program at your school
- Are passionate about connecting students to food, nature, and sustainable living
- Have support from your school administration to take on this project
This bursary supports schools directly — not third-party organizations or external programs.
What the Bursary Supports
The School Garden Studio Bursary falls under the AMA Community Foundation’s Food Security and Childhood Safety pillars. The Funds may be used to purchase essential equipment and supplies for indoor or outdoor gardens.
To help ensure funding achieves its intended purpose and creates meaningful impact, the Foundation does not fund items unrelated to food growing, including but not limited to:
- general landscaping or decorative materials
- large‑scale construction or permanent structures
- powered or commercial‑grade equipment
- personal technology
- ongoing operational costs (such as utilities or wages)
- project costs that have already been incurred
- items intended primarily for resale or personal use outside of the project.

A Note on Support for the Foundation
The AMA Community Foundation brings people together to strengthen communities across Alberta. Through the generosity of the Alberta Motor Association, its members, community donors, and corporate partners, we invest in programs and initiatives that create meaningful change. While AMA’s ongoing commitment provides a strong foundation, contributions from the community help us expand granting capacity.
